A bomb threat reported by a 24‑year‑old passenger caused a 90‑minute interruption of arrivals and departures at Stuttgart Airport, affecting around 30 flights and 3,000 passengers.

Interruption period

Flight traffic was interrupted for about an hour and a half between 16:30 and 18:00 on Monday.

Passenger and flight impact

Around 30 flights and about 3,000 people were affected. Nine flights were completely cancelled, nine were diverted and eleven experienced delays of up to three hours.

Security response

The Bundespolizei evacuated the terminals in the security area and suspended arrivals and departures. A search of the area found no actual danger, after which flight traffic was gradually resumed and passenger checks were reopened. All passengers had to be re‑checked because the security area had been cleared.

Investigation

The 24‑year‑old passenger was excluded from his flight to Hurghada, Egypt, and an investigation was opened against him for suspected disturbance of public peace by threatening to commit a crime. He is now on free foot.
