IATA backs airlines as Mumbai airport plans defer 33% international flight shift

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has supported airlines against a unilateral proposal to cut 33 percent of international flights from Mumbai’s Terminal 2 and move them to the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) by October 25, urging the civil aviation ministry to intervene.

The civil aviation ministry asked Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) to defer the plan to shift 265 of Terminal 2’s 770 weekly international departures, which would accommodate 5 million domestic passengers displaced by a partial demolition of Terminal 1 slated for mid‑January next year, and called for a consultative process to review demand‑capacity requirements and alternatives.
