Germany to equip eight major airports with new drone detection systems

The German Aviation Authority will install drone detection equipment at the country's eight main commercial airports, covering runways and departure areas, starting this week.
Installation schedule
Installation of the systems begins this week at the eight main commercial airports, with Leipzig being the last airport to receive the equipment.
System operation
The drone detection systems are operated by the German Aviation Authority (DFS) and are designed to provide early detection of potential threats and rapid alerting of security forces.
The equipment will monitor the runways and departure areas of each airport.
Government coordination
Transport Minister Steffen Bilger said the installations are being carried out in coordination with the Interior Ministry to strengthen drone security.
Background incident
The deployment follows a hybrid attack at Leipzig airport two months earlier, in which at least one drone carrying explosives failed to cause damage.
The German government blamed Russia for the attack.
