Barranquilla to temporarily manage landside of Ernesto Cortissoz Airport

- On 1 October, the administration of Barranquilla and the Colombian national government signed an agreement for the district to temporarily assume management of the landside of Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport for a period of one year and eight months, with President Abelardo De la Espriella signing the pact and the city committing to invest 40 000 million pesos, split as 15 000 million in 2026 and 25 000 million in 2027.
- Under the deal the national government retains responsibility for the runway, air navigation and operational safety, while Barranquilla will handle terminal functions such as air‑conditioning, passenger attention, baggage handling and other improvements, a move described as a modernization effort to strengthen air connectivity and support economic and tourist development in the Colombian Caribbean region.
