- The aircraft dropped from about 24,000 feet to 11,000 feet within three minutes, after which the FAA lost contact in the early morning and issued a search and rescue alert; Coast Guard vessels later found wreckage in Nantucket waters and confirmed it belonged to the missing plane, and the Coast Guard vessel William Sparling will continue search operations.
