The Coast Guard located remains of a Gulfstream G100 that vanished while flying from Bermuda to Boston, confirming the aircraft’s loss and reporting on the search effort.

Wreckage located

The U.S. Coast Guard reported finding remains of the Gulfstream aircraft that disappeared off Nantucket, Massachusetts.

The search covered an area of 1,644 square miles (about 4,250 square kilometres).

The Coast Guard scheduled a press briefing for 11:00 local time (15:00 GMT) on Sunday.

Flight details

The aircraft, a Gulfstream G100 operated by Latitude Air Ambulance, was en route from Bermuda to Boston and was scheduled to land around 01:25–01:30 local time on 3 October.

Flight‑tracking data show the plane was cruising at about 24,000 feet (approximately 7,300 metres) before descending rapidly, with one source noting a drop of roughly 13,000 feet in two minutes to near 11,000 feet.

Other reports state the aircraft descended from 7,160 metres to 3,300 metres in about three minutes, while another source describes an anomalous maneuver dropping from about 7,000 metres to 3,300 metres before radar contact was lost.

Occupants

Six people were aboard: two pilots, two medical staff, a patient and a relative, according to one report.

Other accounts list the occupants as two Bermudian citizens, two doctors, and two Canadian pilots.

What's still unclear

Sources differ on the aircraft’s initial cruising altitude (24,000 feet, 7,160 metres, or about 7,000 metres) and on the duration of the rapid descent (two minutes versus three minutes).
