Iranian airlines will restart flights to and from Najaf International Airport after a U.S. waiver permits up to 40 daily services, with Mahan Air excluded.
US Waiver Details
The U.S. Treasury Department issued a waiver that allows Iranian carriers to operate up to 40 flights daily to and from Najaf International Airport, but the waiver excludes Mahan Air.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al‑Zaidi said the waiver enables humanitarian, medical, tourism and educational travel, and noted that U.S. forces left Iraq on September 30 with no interest in creating a crisis over the flights.
Resumption Schedule
Najaf International Airport will resume flights to Iran on Sunday with three evening flights scheduled.
Exclusion of Mahan Air
Mahan Air is not covered by the waiver; the airline has been under U.S. sanctions since 2011 for supporting the IRGC‑QF.
Political Reactions
Ammar al‑Hakim thanked Prime Minister al‑Zaidi for the agreement that lifts restrictions affecting pilgrims, patients, students and businesses, and called for all Iraqi airports to allow Iranian flights.
