A Gulfstream G100 operated by Latitude Air Ambulance vanished while flying from Bermuda to Boston. The U.S. Coast Guard and the FAA have begun a search off the coast of Nantucket.
Aircraft and occupants
The aircraft was a Gulfstream G100 owned by Latitude Air Ambulance of Hamilton, Ontario and was on a medical evacuation mission. Six people were aboard – four crew members and two passengers.
Clarence Togeretz, director of flight operations at Latitude Air Ambulance, confirmed the mission.
Flight details
The plane departed Bermuda at 23:41 Eastern Time, scheduled to land in Boston at 01:25 Eastern Time. It lost more than 12,000 feet of altitude in three minutes before contact was lost, and descended from 23,500 feet to 11,000 feet within twenty minutes of the scheduled landing.
The FAA reported that contact was lost early in the morning.
Search operation
The U.S. Coast Guard launched an air and sea search, deploying aircraft, a helicopter, two boats and assets from the Cape Cod station. The search area was focused near the Nantucket coast, including 13 nautical miles south of Nantucket.
The FAA issued a Search and Rescue Alert Notice, with a notice dated 1:20 a.m. Eastern Time.
Bermuda Prime Minister David Burt expressed thoughts and prayers for the occupants.
