FAA, TSA and police intervene in ultralight access dispute at Fairfield Municipal Airport

Sources

- On Labor Day a pilot entered Fairfield Municipal Airport through a gate opened by a hangar tenant, drove across the airport grounds and parked beside an active grass runway to unload an ultralight aircraft.
- The pilot asked for unrestricted gate access, which the airport operator denied and instead offered access only during normal business hours, a proposal the pilot rejected; the airport operator subsequently contacted the FAA three times, the TSA and local police after receiving threats, and the dispute has been referred to the Kansas City Flight Standards District Office while the airport commission considers amending its ordinance on airport access.
