The U.S. Navy’s USS Harry S. Truman arrived at Huntington Ingalls Industries for a refueling and extensive maintenance program. The work marks the carrier’s eighth Nimitz‑class overhaul and follows an eight‑month deployment that the Navy described as “significantly stressful.”

The USS Harry S. Truman arrived at Huntington Ingalls Industries on Thursday for refueling and a complex overhaul. It is the eighth Nimitz‑class carrier to undergo this maintenance. The overhaul will include hull and freeboard blast and paint, repairs to propellers, sea chests, shafts and rudders, and defueling and refueling of the power plant. The carrier completed an eight‑month deployment that began in September 2024, which the Navy called a “significantly stressful deployment.” The ship has a planned service life of over 50 years, and the repairs are intended to extend its longevity.
