The Short Belfast turboprop nicknamed Hector has been parked on an apron at Cairns Airport since January 2009 and underwent engine test runs on the tarmac in early December 2023.

Cyclone Jasper brought 12.1 inches (307 mm) of rain to the airport on 18 December 2023, submerging the Belfast up to its lower fuselage and causing significant water damage.
