Two people died when a small aircraft crashed at Rooster Run Golf Course near Petaluma Municipal Airport late Wednesday morning, with officers arriving around 10:40 a.m. to find the plane fully engulfed in flames.

The Petaluma Fire Department extinguished the fire, and the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were notified and have assumed investigative authority, while community members were asked to avoid the immediate area to allow emergency personnel and investigators to work safely.
