Aena awarded management of Rio’s Galeão Airport until 2039

Aena has secured a contract to operate Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão International Airport through 2039, adding the hub to a portfolio of 18 Brazilian airports that together handle about 63 million passengers a year; Galeão itself serves roughly 17.9 million passengers annually and can accommodate up to 30 million.
The concession was won with a bid of R$2.9 billion, and Aena’s chief executive Maurici Lucena highlighted the airport’s importance for Brazil’s connectivity and its potential for national and international growth, noting that the operator will focus on operational efficiency, passenger experience, cargo activity and value creation.
