Air New Zealand flight NZ 5013 from Auckland to Napier declared a mayday at 9:22 am after a front‑wheel issue and landed safely at Hawke’s Bay Airport around 10 am, with emergency services present.

A second Air New Zealand flight, NZ 5770 from Christchurch to Napier, was diverted to Palmerston North and passengers were told they would be bused to Napier; two outbound morning flights to Auckland and Christchurch were cancelled.
