Malaysia to roll out three‑phase security upgrade at KLIA starting August
Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced a three‑phase plan to tighten security at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, with the first phase beginning in August and lasting six months, following the arrest of a Malaysia Airlines co‑pilot in Jakarta for attempting to smuggle narcotics.
The initial six‑month phase will implement six short‑term measures, including targeted inspections, strict entry controls, full‑body scans for all passengers, 100% baggage screening for departing flights, a reduction of some entry‑card validity periods from five years to two years, and overall stronger airport entry controls.
