China launches nationwide online registration for foreigners in non‑hotel accommodation

The National Immigration Administration announced that foreigners staying outside hotels must register with the local Public Security Bureau within 24 hours of arrival, and the registration can now be completed online nationwide.

Registrations are accepted through the Immigration Administration’s website, the 12367 app, a mini‑program, or AliPay’s “Foreigners Service” accommodation module, and either the guest or the host may submit the information, though hosts usually assist with the first registration to ensure address accuracy; guests can register alone for repeat stays or when using their own residence, and no further registration is needed for subsequent visits to the same address or to a residence with a valid residence or permanent residence certificate.

Why it matters

Failure to register as required may result in a warning and a fine under the Immigration Law.
