Hollywood Burbank Airport holds ribbon‑cutting for new $1.3 B terminal
A ribbon‑cutting ceremony was held Monday in the new ticketing hall of Hollywood Burbank Airport. The 355,000‑square‑foot replacement terminal, which retains 14 gates, is slated to open to passengers on Oct.
Ceremony and officials
Regional, state and local officials attended a ribbon‑cutting ceremony held Monday in the new terminal’s ticketing hall. State Transportation Secretary Toks Omishakin highlighted safety benefits of locating the terminal farther from the runways and noted that the building meets seismic and accessibility standards and is one of only two all‑electric airport facilities in the country. Burbank Mayor Tamala Takahashi said the community was involved in developing the terminal’s design.
Terminal features
The new terminal measures 355,000 square feet, about 53 % larger than the existing 232,000‑square‑foot complex, and retains the same 14 gates. It includes an eight‑lane TSA checkpoint, 43 common‑use ticket counters and three large indoor baggage‑claim carousels. More than 2,000 parking spaces are planned and operational testing recorded 98 % positive feedback. Airport officials reported that 70 % of the vote supported the project and that 1,500 volunteers helped with the transition.
Funding and timeline
The replacement terminal was built at a cost of nearly $1.3 billion. Ground was broken in January 2024. Senator Adam Schiff secured more than $8 million in federal funding for the project. The terminal is scheduled to open to passengers on Oct.
