Two dead after private aircraft crashes near Boulder, Colorado
A single‑engine plane that departed Longmont Airport was found crashed north of Eldorado Canyon State Park with both occupants deceased.
Crash location and timing
The aircraft was last seen by radar in the Eldorado Springs area on Sunday evening after departing Longmont Airport.
County sheriff officials received a report of the possible downed aircraft at 9:42 p.m. on Sunday from the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center.
A MedEvac helicopter and the Civil Air Patrol located the crash site north of Eldorado Canyon State Park and south of the Flatirons at around 10:15 a.m.
Rescue and casualties
Rescuers reached the site at around noon and found two individuals deceased, with no survivors.
Investigation
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office will conduct the investigation in coordination with the National Transportation Safety Board, led by the NTSB.
The Boulder County Coroner’s Office is conducting an independent investigation to determine the cause and manner of death of the two individuals.
Search effort
A temporary flight restriction is in effect for the area as about 30 crews continue the search.
