Ethiopian Airlines placed a firm order for ten new Boeing freighters – eight 777‑8F and two 777F – to expand its cargo fleet. The deal makes the carrier the first African airline to acquire the 777‑8F and doubles its 777X family order book.

Ethiopian Airlines ordered eight Boeing 777‑8 Freighters and two Boeing 777 Freighters. The order is the airline’s second purchase of the 777X family and brings its total 777X order book to 16 aircraft. The 777‑8F will be the world’s largest twin‑engine freighter with a maximum structural payload of 118 tonnes. Ethiopian’s existing freighter fleet includes 12 Boeing 777Fs, two Boeing 767 freighters and four converted 737‑800SFs. The airline currently serves more than 70 cargo destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America. The purchase makes Ethiopian the first African carrier to acquire the 777‑8F. The new high‑payload freighters increase cargo capacity, supporting revenue growth for Ethiopian’s international freight operations. Expanded range and payload enable the airline to open new cargo markets and improve network flexibility, impacting operations planning. Adding the 777‑8F strengthens the airline’s freight offering for travel sellers and logistics partners seeking reliable high‑volume capacity.
