Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 lands on grass at Munich Airport, no injuries

A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 operating a flight from Munich to Hanoi landed off the runway on the grass at the end of Munich Airport's runway on August 15, 2026, after taking off from the same airport. The aircraft carried 271 passengers and 16 crew members, and none were injured. Flight data showed the pilot pressed the left brake pedal shortly after takeoff and a second braking event occurred later, with the aircraft maintaining about 168 knots for 18 seconds.

The off‑runway landing caused significant damage to the aircraft, highlighting the importance of brake management and runway safety procedures for operators and airport authorities. The incident was investigated by the German Federal Aviation Accident Investigation Office (BFU).
