Delta Air Lines will begin daily service between Salt Lake City and Flagstaff using a 50‑seat CRJ‑550, while Joby Aviation performed a supervised autonomous flight of its electric air‑taxi prototype at Salt Lake City Airport.
Delta Grand Canyon service
Delta will launch two daily flights between Salt Lake City and Flagstaff on 7 June 2027, operating a Bombardier CRJ‑550 configured with 10 first‑class, 20 Delta Comfort and 20 economy seats. The route is supported by more than $1.3 million in incentives, including an $800 000 federal grant that guarantees minimum revenue.
Joby autonomous flight test
Joby Aviation’s J208 electric air‑taxi prototype landed at Salt Lake City Airport on 30 September 2026 with a safety pilot on board who did not manipulate any controls. The flight was supervised, according to Utah Department of Transportation Aeronautics Director Matt Maass, to gather data for safety standards and infrastructure planning. Joby president of operations Bonny Simi said the aircraft is expected to progress to fully pilot‑less operation sometime next year and could begin passenger service by 2025.
