Red weather warnings issued for heavy rain in Tarragona, Castellón and Valencia

AEMET and Meteocat have placed red alerts on parts of Catalonia, Castellón and Valencia as heavy rain and storms develop. Forecasts predict up to 180‑200 liters per square metre in some areas within 12‑hours.

Heavy rain and storms have affected many places in Catalonia, with some areas receiving over 50 l/m² of rain.1 Meteocat warned of rain that could exceed 40 l/m² in half an hour or over 90 l/m² in three hours, especially in the Ebre region.1 AEMET activated red weather warnings for heavy rain in the coastal and pre‑coastal areas of Castellón and Valencia and in the south of Tarragona.2 Forecasts indicate more than 180 liters per square metre could accumulate in less than 12 hours in the affected zones.2 Red alerts are in force from 6 pm on Thursday and will remain until midday on Friday in some areas.2 The intense rainfall raises the risk of flooding and sudden water‑level rises, which can impact airport operations and flight schedules.2 Airlines and travel sellers may need to adjust bookings and inform passengers of possible delays or cancellations.2

Red alerts are expected to stay in effect until midday Friday, maintaining heightened risk of disruption.2
