Ethiopia orders closure of its embassy in Eritrea and expels ten diplomats
Ethiopia ordered the closure of its embassy in Eritrea and declared ten Eritrean diplomats persona non grata, giving them 48 hours to leave the country, after explosions were heard in Addis Ababa that were reportedly carried out by the Tigray People's Liberation Front using drone strikes.1,2
The blasts occurred at the Ethiopian National Defense Force headquarters between midnight and 1:00 am local time, and come amid fresh gains by federal troops and allied militiamen in Tigray and Afar, where tens of thousands have been displaced and hundreds have been killed or wounded since the recent escalation of fighting.1,2
