Couple abandons two dogs at Bogotá's El Dorado Airport after documentation dispute
A couple from Miami left a Pomeranian and a pitbull mix at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá on September 29 after authorities denied entry because of false documentation, and they refused to return to the United States to resolve the issue.1,2
The dogs are now in clinical quarantine under the care of the Instituto Distrital de Protección y Bienestar Animal (IDPYBA) while the owners have been fully identified and will be presented to the Fiscalía for animal‑abuse charges; the incident highlights the strict sanitary and documentation requirements imposed by the Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario (ICA) for travelers bringing pets into Colombia.1,2
