FlyDubai captain hailed as hero after thwarting hijacking attempt
Captain Smit Machchhar was praised as a hero after helping to prevent an apparent hijacking attempt on a FlyDubai flight, during which he was stabbed by his co‑pilot and the aircraft entered a steep descent.1
Despite being severely injured and falling to the ground, Machchhar got back up, saying he needed to stand to save the passengers, and later made a video call to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to report the incident.1
