West Bengal finance minister says Urban Land Act has to go

West Bengal finance minister Swapan Dasgupta said the Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Act, 1976, has to be abolished.1

The Act limits acquisition of land to 5,000 square metres. The state aims to unlock land for development and attract fresh investments. India's real estate market has expanded from about USD 120 billion in 2017 to roughly USD 600 billion in 2025. Real‑estate’s share of GDP is projected to rise from 6 % in 2017 to around 13 % by 2030.1
