Lufthansa schedules final A340‑600 flight for October 2026
Lufthansa announced on social media that its Airbus A340‑600 fleet will operate its last scheduled service on 18 October 2026, flying flight LH 419 from Frankfurt to Washington D.C. The aircraft have been serving routes from Frankfurt and Munich to destinations across North America, South America, South Africa, the Middle East and the Asia‑Pacific region. The retirement timeline was pushed back several times because of delays in receiving new wide‑body fuselages, but rising fuel prices have sped up the decision to retire the type.1
Lufthansa has replaced the A340‑600 on long‑haul routes with Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets, which consume less fuel, supporting the airline’s effort to lower operating costs on intercontinental services.1
