The United States is sending a third aircraft‑carrier strike group and additional Marine Corps ships to the Middle East, with the forces expected to arrive by the end of November, and the deployment will bring the total of carrier strike groups in the region to three for the first time since April.1
The USS Theodore Roosevelt left its home port in San Diego on Sunday for a scheduled deployment, while the USS Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group departed on Monday, joining more than 50,000 U.S. troops already stationed across the region.1
