Jakarta records unhealthy air quality as El Niño intensifies

Jakarta's air quality reached an unhealthy level on Friday morning, with an AQI of 169 driven by PM2.5 concentrations of 87 µg/m³, ranking the city fourth worst worldwide.3
The deterioration coincides with a firmly established El Niño that is expected to persist into early 2027, bringing higher temperatures, droughts and floods that can disrupt transport and logistics across the region, according to the World Meteorological Organization.2
