NJ DEP to Demolish Historic Hangars at Aeroflex‑Andover Airport After Eviction Notices

Tenants at Aeroflex‑Andover Airport received eviction notices in June stating that their hangars would be torn down, and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has decided to move forward with the demolition. The state said it will continue to offer tie‑down spaces for aircraft in the meantime, but a flight school and a maintenance shop at the airport are likely to close if evicted. Many of the aircraft based at the field are vintage, fabric‑covered planes that cannot be stored outside.1

Independent engineers have estimated that repairing the existing hangars would cost less than demolishing them, but the DEP is proceeding with demolition despite the lower remediation cost. The loss of the hangars could force the displacement of vintage aircraft and the closure of key aviation businesses at the airport.1
