Heavy rain and flooding hit Melbourne, prompting over 200 emergency calls

Melbourne experienced one of its wettest October days in years, receiving up to 25 mm of rain in an hour on Thursday afternoon, while Melbourne Olympic Park logged 47.8 mm since 9 am, and rainfall of 20‑50 mm was recorded around Ballarat and the city.1,4

More than 200 calls for assistance were logged by the State Emergency Service, including six water rescues, 71 reports of building damage, 50 for flooding and 44 for downed trees, and the city lost power around 3 pm as the storm moved through; South Australia also saw 20‑25 mm of rain across parts of the Adelaide Hills.1,2,3,4
