EU to meet on diesel price surge as US urges release of strategic reserves

EU member states will hold an emergency meeting on Friday to coordinate a response to sharply rising diesel prices, after the United States called on European allies to tap their strategic diesel reserves immediately.1
The US has also suggested a possible ban on diesel exports, which the EU trade chief warned could have very dramatic consequences for the bloc's economy, while the UK government reassured the public that diesel supplies remain robust despite record‑high prices linked to disruptions from the US‑Israeli war on Iran and the Russia‑Ukraine conflict.1,2
