On October 2, 2022 at 06:00 the Royal Irrigation Department said the Chao Phraya River at Chai Nat Dam was flowing at 2,500 cubic metres per second and the water level above the dam was 17.77 metres above sea level, while in Nakhon Sawan the level was 23.71 metres above sea level, 1.99 metres below the embankment.1

The department linked the rise to heavy rain in the river basin and warned that Bangkok and communities along the river should stay alert for possible backflow through drainage systems during high tide, noting that the level was expected to continue rising.1
