Barranquilla district to temporarily manage land side of Ernesto Cortissoz Airport

The administration of Barranquilla and the national government signed an agreement on 1 October to start the process for the district to temporarily assume management of the land side of Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport, while the airport remains owned by the nation and the Civil Aviation Authority retains control of runway and air‑navigation responsibilities.1,2,4

The deal is intended to speed up investments in air‑conditioning, passenger‑service areas, baggage handling and terminal aesthetics, with the city planning to improve the passenger experience and demonstrate its management capacity during an initial period of one year and eight months, after which the land‑side functions will revert to national authority.1,2,4

According to a statement from the mayor, full operational transfer of the airport to the district is expected within the next 18 months.3
