Azerbaijani serviceman enters Armenian village of Shaki, shoots resident and is arrested

On 1 October an Azerbaijani serviceman crossed the Armenia‑Azerbaijan border and entered the village of Shaki in the Syunik region, where he broke into a house and shot a 35‑year‑old mother of three who discovered him, according to local reports.2
The woman defended herself with a kitchen knife, injuring the serviceman before he fled and was later arrested after hiding in a neighbour’s yard, and the incident followed a prior Azerbaijani claim that the serviceman had gone missing on the Lachin direction on 26 September, with Armenian authorities being notified on 29 September but not locating him until the attack.3
