US Navy selects Boeing to develop sixth‑generation carrier fighter F/A‑XX

The US Navy has awarded Boeing a contract to develop the F/A‑XX, a sixth‑generation carrier‑based fighter, with a value of $20 billion covering the development phase and production of aircraft for land testing, flight testing, and system and armament integration.1

The new aircraft is intended to gradually replace the F/A‑18E/F Super Hornet, complement the F‑35C, and enhance the future Carrier Air Wing by offering greater autonomy, payload capacity, new sensors and advanced data fusion, while extending the operational range of the embarked air group for longer‑distance power projection.1
