India's Cabinet approves Rs 1.86 lakh crore GEC‑III scheme for transmission and storage
The Union Cabinet approved a Rs 1.86 lakh crore Green Energy Corridor‑III (GEC‑III) scheme to build an intra‑state transmission system, including 50 GWh of battery storage, aimed at evacuating up to 135 GW of renewable power by FY2032‑33.1
The scheme is intended to unlock a new growth phase for India's renewable sector by addressing the current shortage of transmission capacity that is delaying renewable additions, and it gives the market clearer visibility that transmission investment must keep pace with the country's renewable and electricity‑demand goals, while also strengthening grid reliability.1
