US Deploys Third Aircraft Carrier to Middle East as Oil Prices Surge

The United States sent a third aircraft carrier, the USS Theodore Roosevelt, from San Diego to the Middle East, joining the USS George H.W. Bush and USS George Washington already in the region, while up to 10,000 additional troops are being deployed.2

Brent crude rose by more than 4% to $102.55 per barrel and WTI exceeded $100 per barrel, and PetroChina cancelled a series of oil and aviation fuel shipments for October, which could affect fuel supplies for airlines.2,3

The cancellation of aviation fuel shipments by PetroChina may disrupt fuel availability at Chinese airports such as PEK and PKX.2
